History

In 1846, John Davey purchased a land holding in the area. Thomas McComb arrived in Frankston in 1852. He bought land from the Frankston CBD in 1854. McComb and Davey’s land now makes up much of Frankston South.

Frankston South opened its first post office in 1934. This temporary building serviced the first Australian Scout Jamboree. A permanent post office opened in 1958. A railway line arrived in 1882, and Frankston South grew.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Frankston South is now an expensive residential area. Thanks to its hilly terrain, residents have great views of Port Phillip and the rest of the suburb. The area is home to three primary schools and one secondary school.

Because of its closeness to Frankston CBD, Frankston South does not have any major shopping centres. However, there are small shopping strips on Foot Street and Norman Avenue.
