History

Originally it was not possible to build much at Elwood because it was a swamp. However once the Elwood Canal was developed this changed, and it became a residential area. The nature of Elwood has changed a lot over the years. It used to be a working middle class area, but now it is one of the most desirable places to live in Melbourne.
