Doncaster is a residential suburb located 17km east of Melbourne. It is home to a population of around 18,000 people and is known locally as ‘Donny’.

History

The first purchase of land in the area was made by Frederic Unwin in 1841 and became known as ‘Unwin’s Special Survey’. Many German settlers arrived throughout the 1860s and 70s and they referred to the area as ‘Waldau’ though Doncaster became its accepted name through common usage. It is believed to have taken its name from the town of Doncaster in England.

Doncaster is a growing suburb which has undergone extensive development in recent times because of its proximity to the city of Melbourne. The town offers incredible views of the Melbourne skyline with many families choosing to live here because of the easy commute to the city.
