Dandenong North is 29 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s central business district and is a friendly suburb of Victoria. It has a population of over 21,000 and is close to the Monash Freeway.

History

The suburb of Dandenong North was developed in 1852. The name Dandenong is believed to come from the Woiwurrung word ‘Tanjenong’, which means lofty mountains. Dandenong Creek was bridged in 1940 and the whole area had been taken up for grazing by 1850.

During the mid-20th century, the town became known as a manufacturing and commercial area. The area now features cultural diversity.

There are several schools and many sports clubs in Dandenong North. Most locals travel by car but they do have access to Dandenong railway station. The station also provides bus services to nearby locations.
