Creswick is a small town in central Victoria with a population of 3,300 people. It is 129 kilometres away from Melbourne.

History

The town was named after the Creswick family. They were amongst the early settlers who arrived in the region in the 1840s.
During Victoria’s gold rush in the 1850s, Creswick became a boom-town. A gold-mine in the town helped attract a population of up to 25,000 people at its peak.

Sadly the town was also the site of Australia’s worst mining disaster when 22 men drowned in 1882.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Industry in the area today revolves mostly around forestry, grazing and agriculture.

Australia’s last remaining coloured spinning mill is also still operation in the town. The Creswick Woollen Mills attract tourists from far and wide.

Creswick has a thriving market and regular arts and crafts bazaars.

A wide choice of sporting opportunities are also on offer.
