History

The area of Coburg was once lived-in by the Wurundjeri people. In the 1830s, a man called Robert Hoddle surveyed the land. A surveyor called Henry Foot named the town Pentridge after the birthplace of his wife, Pentridge in England.

By 1899, there were 6000 people living in Coburg. After World War I, the area east of Sydney Road was developed.
