The suburb of Clayton South is situated 21km south-east of Melbourne’s central business district. It is located within the City of Kingston local government area and sometimes goes by the name of Westall. This is because the main road and railway station into the region bear that name but it is not officially recognised. The population is over 11,000 people.

History

The suburbs Post Office was first opened in 1929 on July 15th and closed in 1976. Another Post Office opened near the railway station in 1960 but that also closed in 1971. The area is also where the much publicised Westall UFO sighting of April 6th, 1966 was recorded.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb’s educational facilities include 3 primary schools and the Westall Secondary College. The area has a golf course at the Spring Valley Club and the Rosebank Avenue boasts a useful range of shops.

Transport is provided by rail and easy access to the highway via the Westall Road. Many major bus routes pass through the suburb making plenty of local stops at the shopping centre and other locations.
