History
The Djargurd Wurrung people have lived in Camperdown for many thousands of years. After 1835 the first British settlers came to the area, bringing sheep with them. In 1836 there was a huge massacre and 35-40 indigenous Australians died.
The nature of Camperdown has changed significantly over the years. By the mid-twentieth century dairy farming had increased dramatically, and by the late 20th century the town had become popular with tourists.

Camperdown has many historic buildings, and the Manifold Clock Tower is the centrepiece of the town. There are lots of sports facilities in Camperdown, and Australian Rules Football is extremely popular. Camperdown is served by coaches that connect it to other towns and cities in the area. There is also a train station.
