Braeside is an industrial suburb in the local government area of the City of Kingston. It is located 26km south-east of Melbourne’s central business district and at the 2011 census, the population of Braeside was recorded as 0!

History

Though the town has no residential area, it does have an interesting history with much of the land being used as a stables and horse training facility in the early 1900s. Dr Arthur Syme established the facility and trained racing horses there until 1929 when it was leased to Harry Telford. Telford went on to train the 1930 Melbourne Cup winner, Phar Lap there.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

As a primarily industrial suburb, there is little in the way of entertainment in the area though Braeside does have a reserve, Braeside Park, which opened in 1987. The suburb is also home to the Southern Golf Club and a campus of the Mentone Grammar School.
