Boronia is a suburb of Melbourne in the local government area of the City of Knox. It has a population of 20,825. Melbourne’s central business district is 32km west of Boronia. The Belgrave railway line serves this suburb, dividing the town in two.

History

Yarra Yarra tribes lived in Boronia before European settlers arrived. The Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation who were specific to the area. A local councillor named the town after the plant boronia in 1915. He grew the plant in his garden, in an area once known for its beautiful flowers and orchards. Since then it is known for being an excellent meeting point between the green foothills of the Dandenong Ranges and the bustling city of Melbourne.
