Bentleigh is 13km south-east of Melbourne’s central business district and is a part of the local government area of the City of Glen Eira. Bentleigh has a population of approximately 15,000 people.

History

Bentleigh is named after the Victorian Politician and former premier of Victoria, Thomas Bent. Bent is best known for being one of the most corrupt politicians of the time. Before his political career took off, Bent was a property developer and Bentleigh was one of the suburbs he developed.

Bentleigh’s first post office was opened in 1865.

If you’re in search of relaxation and recreation, Bentleigh has a number of parks and is also home to the Bentleigh Memorial Gardens.

The biggest shopping centre in the area is situated on Centre Road and has over 250 shops and businesses, with many restaurants, cafes, delis and cake shops. A weekly market also takes place next to the train station.
