Welcome to Beaumaris, VIC
Beaumaris is a bayside suburb of Victoria with a population of 12,829. It is located on Port Phillip, 19 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s central business district.
History
The Beaumaris Tram Company offered a horse-drawn tram service from Sandringham to Cheltenham from 1889 to 1914. Sadly, it closed and the town lost all trace of the original tram line. However, the street, Tramway Parade was named in honour of the tram service as is where the trams were once seen in action.
The town of Beaumaris was developed slowly with its first post office opening in 1868. It was soon replaced by the Gipsy Village office. The people of Beaumaris had to wait until 1925 before another post office was built in the town.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Beaumaris is almost entirely surrounded by water and bicycle and pedestrian trails follow the length of the coastline. The Concourse Shopping Centre is the main commercial area in the suburb, which is located off Reserve Road. There are also quaint shopping strips along and nearby the shopping complex.
The suburb is serviced regularly by bus routes and you can stay in the town to explore the Bayside Coastal Arts Trail and Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary.
