Abbotsford is a bustling suburb just two kilometres away from Melbourne’s CBD. It has a population of more than 4,900 people.

History

The area used to be occupied by the Wurundjeri people. In the 1830s European settlers bought the land and quickly developed residential lots. A sports oval, named Victoria Park, was created in 1879 to boost the town’s popularity.

In the 1900s Abbotsford became a very culturally diverse town. Irish, Greeks, Chinese and Arabs were just a few of the groups attracted to the area’s industry and trade.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today, the town is home to many young professionals who work in the city centre. There are a number of breweries in the town, as well as a wealth of sporting opportunities.

Nearby Dight Falls is a popular spot for picnickers, and people with kayaks.
