Welcome to Wynyard, TAS

Wynyard is situated on the Tasmanian north coast less than 20km west of Burnie. The peaceful seaside town has just over 5,000 inhabitants.

History

Wynyard got its name from a military man, but it is not entirely sure which one. It could either be Lieutenant-General Edward Buckley Wynyard or Lieutenant Governor Robert Henry Wynyard. More people tend to believe it was the former since he visited the settlement in the 1850s.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Wynyard has a lot to offer to visitors. Two of the highlights are the flat-topped Table Cape and the region’s beautiful tulip fields.

Wynyard is an ideal getaway destination. Explore the beaches, enjoy long walks, and go fishing or kayaking. Make sure to also pay a visit to the Fossil Bluff Conservation Area. In the town centre itself, you can find a couple of cosy cafes and interesting second-hand shops. Twice a month the town also hosts the Wynyard Foreshore Market.
