FAQs

  • What is an osteopath?

Osteopaths treat the whole body with manual medicine which means 'hands-on' techniques to restore normal function and structure in the body. We are primary healthcare practitioners who work allied to your GP and other health professionals. We help you get the body moving again by restoring movement in areas of restriction either from posture or injury problems.

  • Where can I find more information?

There is a lot more to what we do and we can help you understand in a consultation, we have brochures and an association website that has a lot of great information on it.

  • How long has osteopathy been around?

There are still a lot of people who have never heard of osteopathy despite it being one of the largest growing healthcare professions in the world. It has been around for over 130 years and we have been in Australia for over 100 years and have 4 training courses on the mainland Australia.

  • What do osteopaths treat?

Most often people attend an osteopath because of pain in their musculoskeletal system whether it is their spine (e.g. back or neck) or muscles through injury or postural strains. Some people come after motor vehicle accidents or post-surgery. Even before or after attending your dentist, osteopaths can be helpful with reducing jaw pain. Osteopaths can help with conditions such as asthma, pregnancy, sports injuries and chronic disease management such as arthritis.

  • Who can come to an osteopath?

Osteopaths can treat all age groups including babies, children, adults and geriatrics.

  • Do you need a referral?

You do not need a referral unless you are claiming a third party payer such as workers compensation, MAIB or DVA. A referral from your GP under the chronic disease management scheme will allow you to claim through Medicare some rebate for your treatment. Osteopathy is rebated through private health extras and can be claimed at the time of visit with our HICAPS terminal.

  • What are your operating hours?

We operate from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and every second Saturday by appointment. Some later night treatments are also offered by appointment.

  • What qualifications does Pamela have?

Dr. (Osteopathy) Pamela Dennis has done B.Sc. (Clinical Sciences) & M.H.Sc. (Osteopathy). She is a registered Osteopath Member of Osteopathy Australia & currently studying Pain Management at Otago University NZ.
