The Drunken Admiral has been operating as a family run restaurant since 1979. We provide the diner with a truly unique experience, offering the very freshest Tasmanian seafood and meals set amongst a vibrant maritime atmosphere. Being one of Hobart's most iconic restaurants, we’re popular with both locals and tourists alike, so reservations are advised.

Warmly welcome you to our nautically nostalgic restaurant, which seats up to 110 diners. As we are primarily an A La Carte establishment we have cosy 'Nooks and Crannies' everywhere, however, we have one suitable area for a party of 45 to dine comfortably together. The Drunken Admiral is crammed with maritime memorabilia to delight the diner and excite the enthusiast.

Our Chefs:

Chef Jamison Godfrey and his brigade source the freshest of local and interstate seafood. There are many carefully chosen Tasmanian wines to compliment your meal. Non-seafood, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are also available. The Drunken Admiral is world-renowned and always popular, so reservations are advised.

For larger groups, we are also happy to offer a selection of set menus instead of the A La Carte menu which will often make things a little simpler for bigger groups.

Our innovative and exciting A La Carte menu offers a great deal of choice and only the freshest of produce, and whilst we specialise in seafood, we are pleased to offer options to suit all diners. Our Fishmonger’s Board is updated each night & lists the daily catch each of which may be prepared to your preference. Together with our extensive drinks list and delicious desserts, we are pleased to offer a truly unique dining experience in the heart of Hobart’s historic waterfront.

  • Do you take bookings?

    Absolutely! Whilst we will always do our best to accommodate customers without a booking, we definitely recommend bookings in order to avoid disappointment. Please contact us on (03) 6234 1903 or drop us an email alternatively and we will be very pleased to help with a reservation.

  • Can we bring our own BYO wine or beer?

    We are fully licensed and believe that we offer a fantastic selection of beers, wines, spirits and liqueurs - as a result, we cannot accept any BYO and appreciate your understanding.

  • Do you offer set menus?

    Yes, we do. We are happy to offer set menus to any group size but please let us know in advance if you are interested so that we can be sure to accommodate this request. Please contact us on (03) 6234 1903 or drop us an email alternatively and we will be very pleased to provide you with our current set menu options and their respective pricing.

  • Can you bake us a cake for a celebration? Or can we bring our own cake?

    Yes, we would be very pleased to bake a celebratory cake for you (the smaller size is $45 & larger is $65). Please note that we need at least 2 days' notice for a cake order - so please let us know in advance. The smaller size is perfect for groups of up to 8 to 10 people. If the group is any larger, we recommend the larger size.

  • What are the types of cakes available?

    The cake types that we could do for you are listed below: Chocolate truffle cake, chocolate hazelnut tart, flourless orange cake, baked cheesecake (chocolate or mixed berry), lemon tart.

  • What if we prefer to bring our own cake?

    If you'd prefer to bring your own cake, please let us know in advance and be aware that we do have to charge a $4.50 "Cakeage" for each person (up to a maximum of $55 for the group). We can then take receipt of the cake on the night, keep it safe (and refrigerated if appropriate), serve it when you're ready for it, take it back into the kitchen to be sliced up and then served up on individual plates together with premium Tasmanian vanilla bean ice cream.

  • Can you cater for specific dietary requirements?

    Whilst we are primarily a seafood restaurant, we do offer a good selection of non-seafood options including beef, chicken and vegetarian. We will also do our very best to cater for any specific dietary requirements as necessary. Please contact us on (03) 6234 1903 or drop us an email alternatively and we will be very pleased to discuss any specifics with you in advance of your booking.

  • Do you split bills?

    Please note that we do require one payment per table please - we thank you for your understanding. In terms of payment options, we are able to accept cash, EFTPOS, Visa, MasterCard, JCB and American Express. American Express cards will incur a 2% surcharge.

  • Are you open on Christmas Day?

    I am sorry to say that we are in fact closed on Christmas Day - it's the one day of the year that we do shut but we're open from 6pm every other day around it!

  • Are you open on New Year's Eve?

    Yes! We will have two sittings on NYE - the first from 5.30pm until 8pm and then a second from around 8.30pm onwards. The first sitting (from 5.30pm until 8pm) will feature our regular A La Carte menu. The second sitting will feature a special 3-course set menu and we will take bookings from 8.30pm.
