History

Woodville is eight kilometres from Adelaide’s central business district. It was settled in the 1800s. Post-WWII, the suburb saw a number of European migrants settling in the area. Another migration boom occurred post-Vietnam War.

From the 50s to the 80s the suburb saw prosperity. This was in part due to the jobs supplied by the nearby Holden car manufacturing plant. The suburb took a hit when the motor industry went under, and the factory closed down.

Today, around 65% of those living in the suburb were born in Australia. Other countries of birth include India, Italy and Vietnam. The split between those with parents born overseas and those born in Australia is roughly equal.

Woodville is home to the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club and the Woodville Warriors basketball team.
