History

West End is a suburb of Townsville and is located near the north-east coast of Australia. It has a population of 4,242 people according to the 2011 census.
History
The West End Cemetery, Townsville’s first burial place, was built in 1868 as European settlers moved further north through Queensland. The West End Hotel was established in 1885 by Peter Dean and is now heritage-listed.
The Royal Australian Air Force built the area’s Green Street Bunker during World War II. It was used as a bunker during that war, though now serves as the State Emergency Services building.
