Victor Harbor is a town that is located approximately 80km from Adelaide to the south of the city. It is on the Fleurieu Peninsula, and is part of the local government area of the City of Victor Harbor. It has a population of 10,380.

History

The town took its current name in 1921. Originally called Port Victor, there was a mix-up with Port Victoria in the Yorke Peninsula almost causing a shipwreck. Due to this, the name was changed. The name is spelt without a U in harbor. This is due to the fact that the Surveyor General of South Australia made a spelling mistake in early years.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

A good place to visit if you are in the Victor Harbor area is Granite Island. There is a pedestrian causeway to reach it, or you can take one of the horse-drawn trams. One of the major attractions of the island is the little penguins.
