History

The traditional custodians of the area are the Peramangk people. They inhabited the Adelaide Hills region before European settlement. This occurred during the 1800s. In 1880 the town was officially established.

The town’s name comes from a mix of Kaurna words: those for ‘ear’ and ‘location’. The Kaurna are a people whose traditional lands fall within the Adelaide plains. The name comes from their story of an ancestral giant, whose body created the Mt Lofty Ranges. This included his ears!

Uraidla is a small, mostly agricultural town. It is located in the Adelaide Hills, which is a region known for its wines. Local vineyards include Parish Hill Wines, and Barratt Wines, which is in the neighbouring suburb.
