Salisbury is a suburb situated to the north of Adelaide in South Australia. It is a service area for the city of Salisbury and has an estimated population of 7,500.

History

A man called John Harvey founded the area of Salisbury in 1848. He named the town after his wife’s hometown of Salisbury in the UK. The area grew from a population of around 500 in 1881.

In 1940, an explosives and filling factory opened. This doubled the population overnight. The factory went on to employ 6,500 people.

Parabanks Shopping Centre is located in Salisbury, as well as lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. There are many parks in the area, along with gyms, schools, playgroups and sporting facilities.

Salisbury has a train line and bus routes, which offer easy access to Adelaide. The town also has a cinema, bowling alley and many fast food outlets.
