Parkside is a suburb in the local government area of the City of Unley. It is located 2km south-east of Adelaide and has a population of around 4,700 people.

History

Parkside is aptly named on account of its location next to the many parklands that surround its neighbour, Adelaide. It was established in 1849, with the first post office in the area opening in 1859.

The suburb is perhaps most famous for being the home of The Parkside Asylum, a mental health facility that once took up almost a third of the suburbs entire area.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

As the name suggests, Parkside has plenty of parks and recreational facilities which are popular with both residents and visitors. They include the Howard Florey Reserve, the Henry Codd Reserve and Mcleary Park.

Elsewhere, there is a busy shopping centre located on Unley Road which has a number of restaurants and eateries as well as shops and services.
