One Tree Hill is a residential town in Adelaide, SA. It’s located 28km north-east from the Adelaide central business district. Its current population is 1,268.

History

Before European settlement, the Kaurna people lived in the region.

Europeans settled in the area in the 1840’s. In 1851, the One Tree Hill Inn was built. The town was named after the Inn, which was the meeting place of the district council. In turn, the Inn was named after a giant red gum tree. The tree burnt down in 1890, was cut down in 1932 and replaced with five trees that are still there today.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The town has one primary school and several historic primary school buildings. There is a small shopping centre and a hotel called the Blacksmiths Inn. The Para Wirra Conservation Park is located north-east of the town.
