History
The area surrounding Adelaide was home to the indigenous Kaurna. Their culture was largely destroyed by the arrival of European settlers in 1836.
Adelaide was planned out as a colony for free settlers. The suburb of Norwood was laid out in 1847. It was initially a separate town from Adelaide. It got its name from the town Norwood in England. The first town hall in South Australia was built in Norwood in 1859.
