The charming town of Loxton lies in the Riverland region of South Australia. It is approximately 240 kilometres east of Adelaide and has a population of around 7,100. The Loxton area is diverse in industry, agriculture and horticulture.
History
Land near Loxton was first occupied by Europeans in the 1840s and 1850s. The first village settlement was established in nearby Pyap and wheat and bulgur farmers began to settle in the area. It wasn’t proclaimed a town until 1907 when it was named after William Charles Loxton.
Loxton was also the location of South Australia’s largest soldier settlement scheme. Many ex-servicemen and their families moved to the area to grow citrus and summer fruits.

Loxton has a vibrant shopping district and thriving business centre. Known as ‘the Garden Town of the Riverland’, Loxton’s beautifully maintained gardens attract many visitors to the town. Loxton Golf Club is classed as one of the best courses in South Australia.
Take a step back in time at ‘The Village’ where you can see how the first pioneers lived during the 1800s. There are over 45 exhibits and buildings that are fully furnished with antique memorabilia.
