History
Clare was discovered by John Hill, the first European to explore the area. John Horrocks later led the first European settlers to the area in early 1840. Edward Burton Gleeson established the township of Clare in 1842. He named the town after his hometown Country Clare in Ireland.

The suburb is the commercial hub of the wider area. Clare has many amenities including two supermarkets, two public and two private schools.
The Riesling Trail is a 32km walking and cycling trail on the old train route, passing vineyards and wineries of Clare Valley.
