History

For over 40,000 years, Christies Beach has been home to the indigenous Kaurna people. The beach area was sometimes used as a base over summer. At the conclusion of summer, the Kaurna would then move on.

The European settlement of the area began in the 1830s. Plots of land were sold to farmers and a whaling station was built. The Christies Beach Post Office opened in 1945.
