History

Little has been recorded on the early beginnings of Burton. It is known that the indigenous Kaurna people were the original inhabitants of the Burton and surrounding Adelaide Plains area before white settlement. A Methodist church, which was also used as a school, was built in the suburb in 1858.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

There are two wetland reserves in Burton. One of them is Kaurna Park, named after the traditional owners of the land. The Wodliparri, the Kaurna word for Milky Way, is a river that flows into the wetlands.

Burton Primary School opened in the area in 1990. More than 400 pupils attend the school per year.
