History

Yandina takes its name from the native words ‘yan’ and ‘dinna’. These words mean ‘to go’ and ‘feet’. Before European settlement in the 1850s, Aboriginal people lived in the Yandina for 40,000 years. Yandina was formally established as the suburb it is today in 1870. A number of the original buildings are still there to this day.

Yandina is most famous for the Buderim Ginger Factory. Not only is it a fully functioning ginger factory, it is also a family friendly tourist attraction. It has been open since 1980. Visitors can enjoy a train ride, factory tours, exhibitions, shops and restaurants. The ginger products made here are exported worldwide.
