Based in Queensland, Warana is a suburb on the Sunshine Coast. It lies within the Kawana Waters urban centre, and falls under the county of Canning. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 3,500 people. Warana lies 11km north of Caloundra, and 10km south-east of Maroochydore. It neighbours Buddina, Sippy Downs, and Bokarina.

History

This coastal suburb is one of the four suburbs in the Kawana Waters coastal residential project. The project began in 1960. It was led by Alfred Grant Pty Ltd, Queensland Government, and the Landsborough Shire Council.

Alfred Grant named the area. According to Justine Kenyon, the name means “blue sky”. However, this is uncertain.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

This lovely suburb has the Mooloolah River to its west, and the ocean to the east. John Holton Park is popular with people looking for a beachside stroll. Most of the suburb’s shops sit on Nicklin Way.
