The Gap in Queensland is a suburb surrounded by hills. It is around 8 kilometres west of Brisbane’s central business district and has an estimated population of 16,000.

History

This area was once heavily forested and lived-in by the Turrbal people. After the Europeans came to The Gap, the suburb became known for its tree felling industry. It later went on to be a farming town.

Masons Jam Factory was once located to the east of Ashgrove Golf Course. There was also a gold mine near the entrance to Payne Road Primary School. In 2008, The Gap was hit by a big storm, which caused damage to lots of trees, roads and houses in the area.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

As a leafy suburb, you can find many lush green parks in The Gap. It’s home to plenty of sporting clubs and Ashgrove Golf Course. There is also The Gap War Memorial at Walton Bridge Reserve.

The suburb has a small shopping village and a police station, as well as good schools and Christian churches.
