Stafford is a suburb of Brisbane found 6km north of the city’s central business district. It has a population of more than 6,000.

History

Once called ‘Happy Valley’, Stafford gained its current moniker at the end of the 19th century. It was a place of thriving rural industry, with quarries, tanneries, dairies and brickworks active at various points. Many businesses got displaced by housing after World War Two, and Stafford is largely residential these days.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Stafford is known for its beautiful old Queenslander houses. The Stafford State School is another famous building, and features on the Heritage Register. The local shopping centre is excellent, and even includes a cinema. There are also some great little cafes dotted about, such as Elixir Coffee and Maple Cafe. Stafford offers easy access to the rest of Brisbane, with the CBD just a cheap cab ride away.
