With a population of 11,195, St Lucia is a bustling suburb of Brisbane. It sits on a peninsula, bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides.

History

Historically a site of sugar plantations, St Lucia was originally a part of Indooroopilly. Later, it was part of Toowong.

The suburb has had many names. It has been known as Indooroopilly Pocket, Toowong South, and Lang Farm. The suburb takes its current name from the St Lucia Sugar Plantation.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

St Lucia is home to the main campus of the University of Queensland. The university and its residential colleges take up a large proportion of the local area.

In addition to residential housing, the suburb is home to the St Lucia Golf Links. This 18-hole hole public golf course is one of the oldest in Brisbane. It has hosted both PGA and Queensland Open tournaments.
