Shailer Park is a hilly suburb of Logan City. It is a mostly middle-class area to the north of the Pacific Highway. It has a population of 11,275.

History

Shailer Park takes its name from Francis and Catherine Shailer. These early settlers arrived in the area in 1866. At first, they were cotton farmers but later they grew sugar. The Shailers also owned Queensland’s first citrus orchard.

The suburb was made a district in 1971. It became a sub-district of Slacks Creek in 1977 and a suburb in 1991.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Shailer Park is home to the Logan Hyperdome. This is a major regional shopping centre. It opened in 1989. The Hyperdome stands on the former site of a local water park.

Many shoppers travel to the Logan Hyperdome. As a result, many businesses and facilities have opened in the surrounding area. The Queensland Government considers Shailer Park a major activity centre.
