Salisbury is a suburb to the south of Brisbane. It is located just 11km from the Brisbane Central Business District. According to the 2011 census, Salisbury has a population of 6,096 with a roughly equal number of men and women.

History

As Salisbury used to be very rural it was used as a place to build munitions factories. A tram line was extended to reach the factories during the Second World War. The area was urbanised after the war, and many houses were built from the 1960s onwards.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Salisbury is still very much a residential and industrial area. Public transport connects it to the rest of Brisbane. Houses are mostly detached and are built in various traditional and modern styles. In the north of Salisbury there is a lot of parkland, and it has a number of facilities such as schools and shops. The area is being developed all the time.
