Rothwell is a seaside residential suburb with a population of 6,683. It is located on the Redcliffe Peninsula, 28km north-east of Brisbane. It falls within the Moreton Bay Regional Council.

History

Rothwell’s namesake is TJ Rothwell. He was an ex-president of the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland. It was officially named as a suburb on July 1, 1970. It is prone to flooding because of its close proximity to Saltwater Creek. Rothwell Train Station was opened in October 2016.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Two sporting clubs exist in Rothwell. One is the Rothwell Cougars softball club. The other is the Redcliffe Tigers Australian football club.

There is a growing commercial district called The Zone in Rothwell. Larger shopping districts are located in nearby Kippa-Ring and Deception Bay.
