Welcome to Roma, QLD
Roma is a town in south-west Queensland that has a population of almost 7,000 people. It lies just over 500 kilometres away from Brisbane and is a well-known wheat growing area.
History
The town was named in honour of the wife of Queensland’s first Governor in 1867. The Romaville Winery was established here after cuttings were brought to the area from other Queensland sites.
In the mid-1960s Roma played an important role in the discovery of Australia’s first oil and gas supplies.
The infamous cattle rustler, Captain Starlight, was tried in the Roma Courthouse in the 1870s. He was acquitted and no successful conviction for cattle rustling has even been made in the town.

Roma boasts a wide array of tourist attractions. As well as the Big Rig and Oil and Gas Museum visitors can experience the oldest vineyard in Queensland, and a trip to nearby Carnarvon Gorge.
Other attractions include a selection of restaurants, library, swimming pool, hotels, golf course and many more sporting opportunities.
