History

The suburb was once called Rocky Water Holes. It is surrounded by creeks and water holes. When the Brisbane River swells, the suburb often floods.

The suburb was renamed Rocklea when the railway opened in 1925.

The area’s first market began trading in 1866. Today, the Brisbane Markets are found in the suburb. They opened in 1964. Traders sell flowers, fruit and vegetables.

LIfestyle and Entertainment

Rocklea is primarily an industrial area. The Dulux Paint Group is a major manufacturer in the area. Due to flood risk, housing is affordable.

The retro Rocklea Showgrounds are popular for festivals and events. The vintage fair attracts many retro enthusiasts.

The Rocklea State School has been operating since 1885.
