Peregian Beach is a beach and small seaside town on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. It has a population of just over 3,500, and takes its name from the Aboriginal word for ‘emu’.

History

During World War II, Peregian Beach, Sunshine Beach and surrounding areas were used for artillery training. Current residents sometimes discover artillery shells and unexploded bombs on their land.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Peregian Beach is next to Noosa National Park. There is a shopping precinct, a surf club and a hotel. The local skate park is popular among skaters in the region. It can be prone to short periods of flash flooding in the wet season. Peregian Originals is on the second Sunday of each month in the park beside the surf club. It has original live music. Peregian Markets is held on the first and third Sunday of each month.
