History

Newstead is an up-and-coming upmarket suburb, but previously the area was highly industrial. It was once home to timber yards and woolstores, as well as wharves. Historically, transportation in Newstead was by tram, but the suburb is now served by bus routes.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

As Newstead is close to Brisbane’s CBD, there are plenty of amenities located close to the suburb. It sits right along the Brisbane River, and the local Newstead House is a heritage-listed site with beautiful views. Fortitude Valley is nearby as well, and locals have great access to Chinatown and the area’s bustling nightlife.
