A town and locality in South East Queensland, Nambour sits 101km north of Brisbane. In the sub-tropical hinterland of the Sunshine Coast at the foot of the Blackall Range, it has a population of over 10,000.

History

Then called Petrie’s Creek, the town was settled in 1970. In 1891, the rail link with Brisbane was finished. At its opening, the town was renamed Nambour after the Nambour cattle station.

In 1924, a fire destroyed many timber buildings along the main street.

A piece of rail history is still on display in the town, the Nambour to Coolum Tramline. This tramline transported passengers and sugar cane in the 1920s.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Nambour & District Historical Museum is open to the public every Wednesday and Saturday.

The Nambour Civic Centre is an arts and entertainment venue. This venue includes a cinema, a theatre, and other arts based events. The suburb is also home to the Nambour Festival.
