Murrumba Downs is a suburb in Moreton Bay, and is 24km from Brisbane’s CBD. It is bordered by Bruce Highway and the North Pine River. As of the 2011 census, the population was 9,393.

History

Murrumba Downs was originally part of the Murrumba land, bought by Thomas Petrie in 1858. The land was once farmland, primarily used for dairying, vegetable growing, and pineapples. The name comes from an Aboriginal word that means ‘good place’.

The local area has a selection of shops and a swimming pool, as well as state primary school, a secondary school, and a Lutheran primary school. There are also many parks in the area, along Black Duck Creek. Murrumba Downs has local watering hole, the Murrumba Downs Tavern.
