Mossman is a small township in Far North Queensland with a population of 1,700 people. It lies 80km north of Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway.
History
The Mossman River flows through the region, which is how the town got its name. The river was named after the miner Hugh Mosman, who found gold in Charters Towers.
The heart of the town developed around its sugar mill, which began its operation in 1894. In 1895 Mossman got its first post office and a school followed only three years later.

Today Mossman is a friendly town surrounded by green sugar cane fields. In its centre, you can explore various country stores and historic pubs. It is also a great place to discover some of Queensland’s natural highlights. Be sure to visit Mossman Gorge in the nearby Daintree National Park and to take a stroll along the Mossman River.
