Moorooka is a busy suburb in Queensland. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 9900 people. Moorooka lies 7km south of Brisbane’s central business district. It neighbours Annerley, Salisbury and Rocklea.

History

Before European settlers came to the area, Moorooka was home to the Jagera tribe. Moorooka gets its name from the indigenous language. It is thought that Moorooka directly translates to ‘long nose’ or ‘iron bark’.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Historically, Moorooka has been regarded as a working class town. But recently, the area has become more gentrified. While the east side of Moorooka is largely made up of family homes, the west side is the place to be for shopping. Beaudesert Road is home to hundreds of shops, cafes, restaurants, newsagents and supermarkets.
