History

The suburb gets its name from the cutler ship that surveyor John Oxley sailed on to the area in 1823. Upon landing Oxley named “Mermaid Beach” and “Mermaid Waters” followed suit as it was later established.

As Mermaid Water is a planned community, it features some of the Gold Coast’s best homes. Many homes are built along man-made canals and lakes.

A key historical landmark of the area is the 17-hectare freshwater Lake Hugh Muntz.

Mermaid Waters is the playground of the wealthy on the Gold Coast. It is close to the coast’s best shopping and dining facilities, including nearby Pacific Fair and Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach restaurants.
