Based in Queensland, Marcoola is a suburb on the Sunshine Coast. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 3,100 people. It neighbours Bli Bli, Mudjimba and Pacific Paradise. Marcoola overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Marcoola lies 100km north of Brisbane.

History

The suburb’s name dates back to the 1960s. It is a combination of “Maroochy” and “Coolum”. The area’s urban life grew around a surf live-saving club.

Marcoola is home to Mt Coolum, a volcanic mountain that formed a whopping 26 million years ago. Huge and distinctive hexagonal columns surround the Mt Coolum cliffs.
