Kuraby is a suburb of Brisbane 16km south-east of the central business district. It has a population of more than 7,700.

History

Once a farming settlement, Kuraby was first settled in the 1860s. It used to be known as “Eight Mile Plains”, and the name “Kuraby” wasn’t made official until 1975. Kuraby is an Aboriginal word that means “a place of many springs”. In recent years, most of Kuraby’s farmland has been replaced by residential housing.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Kuraby is famous for its weekly Farmers and Food Markets. They’re held every Saturday next to Kuraby Rail Station. The markets offer fresh produce, gourmet treats, and a wide range of boutique goods, as well as various activities. Kuraby also has numerous parks to enjoy. These include Svoboda Park, Kinta Street Park and Wally Tate Park. Kuraby has strong transport links to the rest of Brisbane, and is tucked nicely between the livelier suburbs of Logan and Garden City.
