Jindalee has a population of over 5,000 people and forms part of Brisbane’s outer suburbs. It was one of the first Centenary suburbs, planning for which started in 1959, Queensland’s centenary year.

History

The area was mainly used for grazing and dairy farming before development began in the 1960s with the Hooker Centenary Project.

Major damage was caused to the area’s housing stock during the 1974 floods, as well as fears for the safety of Centenary Bridge. Traffic on the bridge was reduced to a single lane for two years while work was carried out to repair it. A new bridge was built in 1980 carrying two-lanes of traffic in both directions.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Jindalee today has regular transport links to the city centre, as well as thriving state primary and secondary schools. Brisbane’s Central Business District is just 12 kilometres away.
