Gulliver is a residential suburb in the City of Townsville. It is 5km from Townsville’s city centre, and has a population of 2991, according to the 2011 census.

History

The suburb got its name from one of the Gulliver brothers, who owned horticulture businesses in the area. Gulliver’s settlement largely came post-war, and today the street design is reminiscent of a post-war garden city layout. The primary and secondary schools in the area opened in 1954 and 1959.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Gulliver’s location makes Townsville CBD highly accessible, as well as the Townsville Airport. The area is home to Gill Park, which serves as a local cricket ground, and the Anderson Park Botanical Gardens are located on the fringes of the suburb. TAFE Queensland North, Townsville can be found in Gulliver as well.
