Goodna is a suburb in the City of Ipswich, and is 20km from Brisbane’s CBD. The suburb is bounded to the north by the Brisbane River, and has a population of 8,777.

History

Goodna was discovered in 1823, when it was visited by John Oxley’s exploration party. The suburb was officially founded in 1856 as part of NSW, but became part of Queensland later on. Goodna was a farming and timber area, and during the mid-late 1800s, the local schools and churches were built, as well as stores. Today, Goodna has many heritage-listed sites, including the St Francis Xavier Church.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Goodna Shopping Centre is one of the area’s major shopping centres, and has medical services, supermarkets, and financial services. It is also the perfect place to keep fit, with gyms and sporting clubs in the area. Goodna is host to two main events through the year: the Mall 2 Mall Bike Ride in April, and the Jacaranda Festival in October.
